Laws of Design Power #25 of 48: Evolve Your Design Through Adaptive Leadership

Form new identities by being a master of your image through creative and business presentation skills. Be a risk identifier. Be a creative force. Show you are a team collaborator. Do not isolate yourself to one role within your workplace. Take responsibility for your design goals with opportunities to show different ways you solve problems. Be willing to pivot with your business especially when it serves you and your team. Become larger than life by creating memorable presentations and narratives in meetings with bold or deep problem-solving solutions.

Expanding:

As design leaders, we must constantly embrace a journey of continuous change which requires pivoting from time to time within organizations. Our leadership demands adaptability and a commitment to growth. Just as design is an iterative process, cultivate a mindset that embraces change and growth within your team, leading by example in the ever-evolving business landscape. Avoid stagnant principles that do not evolve with your company goals including a governance committee to evaluate improvements. Continually seek ways to reinvigorate your leadership style, skills, and knowledge. Just as design is about refining and improving, your role as a design leader involves re-creating yourself to inspire and guide your team effectively.

To achieve this, prioritize ongoing team education with milestone self-assessments. Stay attuned to industry trends alongside design challenges, emerging technologies, and evolving customer/user expectations. Demonstrating a willingness to evolve with your team you set a culture of encouraging continuous improvement. As design leader leaders we understand the importance of staying current and adaptable in an ever-changing world of stakeholder needs. By embracing an adaptive mindset your team will recognize their individual growth contributes to an integral part of the team as a whole as they strive for excellence. In doing so, you create a culture where design values thrive within your team.

This is law #25

CONTEXT: While reading Robert Greene’s 48 Laws of Power I gave myself a challenge. Since the author has even suggested we do not take them too literally, could we take inspiration as creative laws to convey our value among stakeholders?  How would you reframe and expand on this law?
